Photography
Photography is not as modern as we would like to think because the word
photograph was coined in 1839 by Sir John Herschel and is based on two Greek words; φῶς (phos) meaning light, and γραφή (graphê) meaning
representation by means of lines or drawing. These two words together have the meaning of drawing with light which
is quite an accurate description for the process we know as Photography.
Traditionally, the products of Photography have been traditionally called
negatives and photographs which were commonly shortened to photos which is the common word for them today.
However, Photography is not what it used to be
where cameras had a film which required developing and then a print was made from the negative.
Photography has now entered the digital world which has disposed of the traditional film and
has been replaced with a digital memory card.
As the technology in Photography has progressed, the quality of photographs
have improved to a point were a much higher quality picture is produced that can also be very easily changed,
enhanced and modified digitally to suit any requirement.
No longer do we need to have films developed and we are even able to immediately see the result
of our photograph on the viewing screen of the camera which can then be deleted or kept as you choose.
Photography has even changed with the movie camera which has become so small it
fits in the pocket and again you can see the results of your filming straight away, with the advancements in
technology it does beg the question as where it will end.
This also raises the final thought, is it worth investing in the latest technology by buying a
new camera with all the bells and whistles considering it could very well be out of date next month.
Our suggestion is to only select a camera that suits your needs and does what you want it to do,
do not try to have the best technological camera with facilities you will never use because you will more often
than not find you are wasting good money on something that will devalue greatly when the next model comes out.
